Overcoming Acoustic Challenges near Airports
Michael Chang
Acoustics Specialist
Designing facade systems for airport terminals presents a unique set of challenges. The primary obstacle: low-frequency jet engine noise.
Standard double glazing and framing systems are insufficient for this level of acoustic bombardment. Our engineering team had to rethink the profile geometry entirely.
The Custom Solution
We developed a custom F-Series profile featuring asymmetric glass thickness capabilities (e.g., 12mm outer / 8mm inner) separated by an extra-wide acoustic PVB interlayer. More importantly, the aluminum frame itself was injected with high-density acoustic dampening foam to prevent sound flanking through the mullions.
